Wine News

There’s so much to love this February by the bottle or the glass.  We’re honoring winemaker Mac McDonald to celebrate Black History Month at Bargello.  Bargello and Posana will each be featuring a wine by the glass giving you even more to love this Valentine’s Day Weekend.

Bargello’s Featured Wine of the Month

Vision Cellars ‘Rosella’s Vineyard’ Pinot Noir 2014 | Santa Lucia Highlands, California

Born the son of a moonshiner, Mac McDonald fell in love with wine at a young age and decided to pursue a career as a winemaker before most of us were able to legally drink. After securing his land in 1995, Mac focused primarily on Pinot Noir in the Monterey area of California offering his first vintage two years later. In addition to establishing his reputation as a talented winemaker, Mac also founded the Association of African American Vintners. At Bargello, we were lucky enough to secure a handful of bottles from his single-vineyard – Rosella’s Vineyard. This wine is unlike any Pinot Noir you’ve had all while carrying the elegance and finesse this fickle grape is renowned for. Heavily extracted and brimming with ripe cherry notes, its brisk acidity keeps the wine light enough for your tried and true Californian Pinot lover, but its depth and structure beg to invite those with an affinity to Cabernets. Mac struck a beautiful balance in this 2014 bottling – we only have a few bottles in stock! Let us know your thoughts on this stunner of a wine.  Also available at District 42.  #visioncellars

Bargello Valentine’s Weekend Featured Wine

Domaine Saint Cyr ‘La Galoche’ | Beaujolais, France

For our Valentine’s Weekend special, we didn’t have to look any further than this Beaujolais from Domaine Saint Cyr. Representing a Cuvee of 6 single parcels throughout the region, La Galoche isn’t your typical bubble gum and fresh flowers rendition of Gamay. Whole cluster fermentation in concrete tanks followed by 6 months of aging yields a crunchy and wild version of Gamay while still inheriting the subtle red fruit notes classically associated with the grape. The name itself speaks volumes of its readiness to be poured this weekend; ‘La Galoche’ loosely translates to ‘french kiss’ – and who wouldn’t want that in a glass of wine? Cheers!

Posana Featured Wine of the Month

Posana wine of the month and by the glass special for Valentine’s Weekend.

Sangiovese 2020 | Ballard Canyon, California To us, there is no more perfect wine to celebrate Valentine’s Day with than this handcrafted Sangiovese. The winemaking technique is the same as used in Beaujolais and produces a light-hearted confectionary quality to the wine – translation: this is not your average Sangiovese. A classically dry red wine meant to be served chilled, this could pair with almost every item on the menu, each course highlighting a different tasting note in the wine. From whimsical cherries to ripe pomegranates, this quaffable libation sends an ode to not only the care given to the grapes during fermentation but also to the loved one you’ll be sharing it with. Intrigued by the simplistic label? It’s none other than the long-time vineyard manager’s handwriting – his love letter to his life’s work. @stolpmanvineyards

Cheers!🍷
