Join Advanced Sommelier, Cara De Lavallade, for a captivating dive into the world of wine! You will have the opportunity to explore diverse themes each month in a refined yet laid-back setting.
Cara’s exemplary skill for sharing her vast knowledge of wine inspires a deep appreciation of wine, from the soils that nurture the vine to the final expression of terroir in the glass. Each session includes six, 2 oz wine pours of wines sourced primarily from our cellar** and a selection of cured meats and cheeses to pair. All wines will be available for retail purchase at the end of the session. Arrive ready to engage in an open dialogue about the tasting experience.
Classes are held on the third Tuesday of each month from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Posana. Seating is limited to 12 guests per session. While classes naturally build on the one before it, it is designed for participants to attend any one individual session.
Tickets for our Wine Education Classes are conveniently available for purchase below, with cancellations accepted up to 48 hours before the class. We kindly request that guests refrain from wearing strong perfumes or scents during the sessions.. Secure your spot today!

With so many different grape varieties, laws, and climates, Italy can be intimidating for novice and seasoned wine drinkers alike. Demystify this fascinating region by learning what grapes are grown where and what styles are tied to different areas.
Embark on a tour of Italy with a progressive tasting of wines from six distinct regions, each telling a story of tradition, culture, and terroir. We’ll also look at the culinary traditions associated with these regions and discuss how these wines work with fall flavors.

What better way to celebrate the closing of another year than by popping a bottle of delicious sparkling wine! More than just Champagne, fine sparkling wines can now be found in regions like England, Tasmania, and Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Learn about the intensive and delicate processes that go into making high quality sparkling wines, what makes Champagne so special, and what are the best non-Champagne alternatives. Of course, we’ll also dive into the most successful pairings with sparkling wine and which wines pair best with which styles of food.

Advanced Sommelier Cara De Lavallade
Meet Cara De Lavallade, Posana’s Assistant General Manager and Advanced Sommelier. Originally from Seattle, she has recently moved to Asheville from Sedona and holds over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She has lived and worked in some amazing places such as Argentina, Silversea Cruiselines in the Mediterranean, and Seattle.
Her many accolades include a Level 3 Wine & Spirits Education Trust Award, Advanced Sommelier from Court of Master Sommeliers, French Wine Scholar Award and Lustau Certified Sherry Specialist.
When not at Posana, you can find Cara hiking with her pups, Nebbiolo and Reggiano, or practicing a new interest in Archery!
